Vitamin K is an essential nutrient best known for its role in blood clotting. For this purpose, Vitamin K1 is sufficient. However, recent studies have demonstrated new roles for vitamin K--specifically vitamin K2 (menatetrenone)--such as supporting cardiovascular health, calcium metabolism, healthy bone density, and overall brain health. Vitamin K also plays an important role in converting glucose to glycogen for storage in the liver.
